ASTM D5034 - Tensile or Breaking Strength (Grab)

ASTM D5034, Standard Test Method for Breaking Strength and Elongation of Textile Fabrics (Grab Test), is used to determine the force required for breaking strength (effective strength of the fabric) and elongation of wet or dry fabrics. The ASTM D5034 test method is primarily used for woven, nonwoven, and felted fabrics. A specimen is loaded into a constant-rate-of-extension tensile testing machine and force is applied in a pulling motion until the specimen breaks.

ASTM F1506 and NFPA 1971 require this testing to for quality assurance of flame resistant fabrics.
